Stabilisation issue continues with Panasonic G80 in video mode

News

Last night we reported that Panasonic was going to issue a firmware update for the G80/G85 this morning. As promised, firmware version 1.1 was published at 6am GMT today and I installed it on our review sample camera. There are also firmware updates for the 12-60mm kit lens and 14-140mm lens.

The firmware update was to correct the jerkiness and visible recoil or bounce-back effect that happens in video mode when panning the camera. I’ve now shot more video with the camera and there is an improvement with the updated 12-60mm kit lens and at common video panning speeds. However, as you can see from the video above, the problem persists with the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4-6.3 lens. The narrow angle of view of this lens makes any movement much more obvious. To be fair, this is unlikely to be a common choice of lens for hand-held videography.

The Panasonic G80 (aka Panasonic G85) firmware update is available from Panasonic.
