Organisers from the Sony World Photography Awards have revealed their shortlist for the 2018 competition. You can see all of the shortlisted and commended images in our gallery below.

Organisers say they saw a massive increase in entries this year – 140% compared to last year’s competition. Photographers from more that 200 countries entered nearly 320,000 images across the Awards’ categories.

The Sony World Photography Awards comprises four competitions: Professional, Open, Youth and Student Focus.

The Professional competition includes 10 categories such as Architecture, Contemporary Issues, Landscape, Natural World & Wildlife, Portraiture and two new categories for this year: Creative and Discovery.

The Open competition offers 10 categories including Culture, Enhanced, Motion, Street Photography and Travel.

The Professional competition is judged on a series of works, while the Open competition is judged on a single image. You can see all of them in the gallery below.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 19 April.
