Sony launches new flagship HVL-F60RM flashgun

News

Sony has announced a new flagship flashgun to its range, introducing the HVL-F60RM, price tag £270 / €300 with a release date set for April 2018.

The Sony HVL-F60RM flashgun has a guide number of 60 and covers illumination angles from 20mm to 200mm, which Sony says will provide uniform coverage throughout your zoom lens’s focal range without shading. What’s more, it can do this with continuous shooting for up to 220v flashes.

Sony says it has improved the HVL-F60M’s to 1.7secs, or just 0.6secs when used with Sony’s new External Battery Adaptor, the FA-EBA1.

Sony says new build materials have also increased the HVL-F60M’s heat resistance by four times compared to its predecessor.

The HVL-F60RM flashgun offers a Quick Shift Bounce feature that allows photographers to shift from horizontal to vertical orientation, 90 degrees left or right, upward by up to 150 degrees, and downward by 8 degrees for flexible positioning across a range of scenes.

Independent light output level (LEVEL -/+) buttons allow direct control of output or compensation, supporting an efficient workflow. A comprehensive display allows for adjustments and flash output level confirmation, and also provides access to flash output settings for paired wireless flashes.

Other features include a dust and moisture resistant design, a new Rain Guard and TTL flash output can be memorised and recalled in the flashgun’s manual mode when needed to help save time.

What’s more, Sony says there is a new auto white balance function that automatically adjusts for light colour in the scene being photographed. Amber and green colour filters are also supplied as standard and can be used to match or complement existing lighting in order to achieve natural white balance or create a specific atmosphere.
