Sony has announced the FE 20mm f/1.8 G, price tag £950/€1100, a new prime lens that becomes the widest optic in Sony’s E-mount lens line-up.

The Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 joins the company’s premium G Lens series and is designed for shooting landscapes and the night sky, as well as video.

The FE 20mm f/1.8 G optical design features two advanced aspherical elements and three Extra-low Dispersion glass elements, which promise to keep chromatic aberrations at bay.

Meanwhile, the Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G offers a minimum focus distance of 0.19 metres, while two XD Linear Motors promise faster, quieter AF performance in both stills and video.

The Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G is compact and weighs just 373g. Its filter thread is 67mm and features a focus hold button and an aperture ring with a click on/off switch.

The Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G price tag is £950/€1100, with a release date set for March 2020.
