Sony has announced the development of a new CFexpress Type B memory card that offers read speeds of up to 1700MB/s and write speeds of 1480MB/s.

Sony’s new CFexpress Type B card promises to be three times faster than its fastest CFast card, which offers read speeds of up to 530MB/s.

Designed for professional use, Sony’s new CFexpress Type B card will come in a 128GB capacity, with 256GB and 512GB capacities planned for the future.

Sony’s new CFexpress card also promises robustness. The company says it can withstand falls from up to 5m high and 70N of force in bend.

Sony is also announcing a new CFexpress Card Reader, the MRW-G1, which is optimised for its CFexpress cards but is also compatible with Sony’s G and M XQD card series.

Both the Sony CFexpress Type B memory card and the CFexpress MRW-G1 Card Reader will be released in early summer 2019.
