Skylum Software has announced the next version of its high dynamic range editing software, Aurora HDR 2019, which introduces a new AI-powered Quantum HDR Engine.
Skylum’s Quantum HDR Engine is the chief new upgrade in the 2019 update. What this introduces is AI-driven tone mapping technology to analyse your images and merge them together.
To develop the engine, Skylum tested it against thousands of images to help it learn how to produce natural-looking high dynamic range images.
Skylum says that its new Quantum HDR Engine can help reduce burned colours, loss of contrast, reduce noise and limit haloes and ghosting in your HDR images, whether you’re using bracketed shots or a single image.

Other new features in Aurora HDR 2019 include an HDR Smart Structure that brings out detail while containing artifacts, and a new LUT mapping tool with instant preview that allows you to colour grade your images.
Aurora HDR Looks replaces Presets for more natural-looking images that brings out textures, Skylum says. Skylum has also commissioned a number of professional photographers to develop their own Aurora HDR Looks.
Aurora HDR 2019 will be priced at $89 for new users and $49 for those looking to upgrade. Upon its 4 October release date the software’s price tag will jump to $99 and $59, respectively.
