Skylum joins with Photolemur, creates new AI Lab

News

Software maker Skylum has announced a new partnership with the photo editing app Photolemur and the creation of a new division focused on developing artificial intelligence technology in image processing.

The Skylum AI Lab will harness the smart filter technology from Skylum’s Luminar 2018 software and Photolemur’s artificial intelligence technology to develop the generation of the two ‘sister companies’’ editing tools.

Currently, the Skylum AI Lab is testing:

  • Image upscaling: uses deep convolutional neural networks to improve low-resolution images and scale them up for superior viewing and printing.
  • Tagging: generates tags that describe the image and its objects based on image recognition.
  • Segmentation: smart recognition of image areas that can be automatically enhanced using different filters and corrections based on the type of object.
  • Automatic enhancement: applies smart image corrections to photos based on a variety of issue

Skylum says the next evolution of Photolemur islikely to be a cloud-based solution that enables high-volume users to enhance images as a batch process.
