Shutterstock reverse engineers that Google watermark removal app
News

Last week Google revealed that one of its many teams of researchers had developed an application that can automatically remove watermarks from stock images.

Now, Shutterstock has countered the announcement in timely fashion and revealed that it can foil the Google app.

Shutterstock says its engineers have developed a smart watermark technology that inserts small inconsistencies into the watermark patterns, which will confuse Google’s app.

What’s more, Shutterstock says that Google has now tested the stock agency’s workaround and claims that it works.

To be fair to Google, its algorithm wasn’t developed to help people steal images, but rather address vulnerabilities in copyright, which the company explains in the video above.
