Samyang has announced a new fast-aperture ‘nifty fifty’ lens for full-frame Canon DSLRs, introducing the Samyang XP 50mm f/1.2, price tag £799 with a release date set for March 2018.

Now the third lens in Samyang’s premium XP series, the XP 50mm f/1.2 joins the XP 14mm f/2.4 and XP 85mm f/1.2 and boasts a resolution of more than 50 megapixels for stills and 8K for video.

Designed for portraiture, the Samyang XP 50mm f/1.2 features 11 lenses in 8 groups along with 9 aperture blades, which the company says helps photographers achieve strong bokeh and shallow depth of field effects.

Samyang says the special optic lenses, aspherical lens and high-refractive lens deliver images to camera sensors by effectively tuning the light path, while ultra multi-coating helps keep flare and ghosting at bay.
