The legendary royal photographer Lord Snowdon has passed away at the age of 86, according to a spokesman for the family.
Snowdon’s picture agency, Camera Press, reports he died peacefully on Friday at his home.
Snowdon was born Antony Armstrong-Jones and married Princess Margaret in 1960. As well as photographing royal society, Snowdon also shot portraits of celebrities.
As the BBC reports, Snowdon did not set out to create a rapport with his subjects. “I don’t want people to feel at ease,” he once said. “You want a bit of an edge.”
