The H&Y Revoring Variable ND+CPL is a variable neutral density filter and a polarising filter with a novel type of mount. It’s essentially the H&Y Revoring with a couple of filters built-in.
H&Y has just launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund both the Revoring and the Revoring Variable ND+CPL. Their anticipated delivery date is November 2020, but we’ve been able to test an early sample.
The smart thing about the Revoring Variable ND+CPL is that instead of screwing onto a lens filter thread, it grips it with a variable-sized mount. That means it can fit a range of lenses.
H&Y makes the Revoring Variable ND+CPL in three sizes:
37-49mm
46-62mm
67-82mm
If your lens has a filter thread of 72mm, you need the 67-82mm H&Y Revoring Variable ND+CPL.
In one word: trash product with non existent customer support -H&Y
I was of the early customers that bought that filter with a new concept.
1. The lock mechanism of this filter is badly & poorly designed, even you secure it firm, it still falls by itself.
2. The nd from nd 7 and up not usable, you get X cross shape over the image. And the shape of the ND with CPL gives somewhat strange not uniform image, going to one or other side of the image(see pics). The is also quality loss in the sky.
3. The company, even that they know it’s new concept, refused to fix within 1 week of getting and using it. No matter how I tried to explain that it’s not my fault and it’s the mechanism that is clumsy, they refused to fix it.
Sorry to read you’ve had a bad experience. The test samples of the Revoring variable step-up adapter that I received at the launch of the Kickstarter campaign were very good. In fact, I was surprised by how secure the attachment mechanism was. As you can see from this review, I had a very early version of the VND Revoring so I didn’t comment on its performance.
Production has been slowed by the pandemic, I know that some backers have received their adapters and filters, but I was the 39th backer for the step-up ring adapter and I’m still waiting for delivery. Communication also appears to have dried up. It’s a disappointing situation.
I forgot to mention the color shift, the image get warmer when using the filter.
Also, when you screwing the filter, it doesn’t lock or even tightens like regular filter, it’s just rotates on and on, get’s harder on thread and then loosens again, that’s how it’s built. So, when you rotate the pins to control ND and CPL in the other direction than the screwing, there is also a big chance it will fall. No way to tighten it, as this is the way it’s biult.
