RED trims product range, cuts prices on its cinema cameras

RED has announced it has reduced its product lineup to just three cameras and made some pretty dramatic price reductions.

From now, RED’s lineup will consist solely of the DSMC2 Monstro, DSMC2 Helium and the DSMC2 Gemini. RED explains its lineup revamp as such:

  • DSMC2 MONSTRO: Offers the same tech specs as the earlier WEAPON MONSTRO 8K VV camera. Now available in Aluminum Alloy. Upon request, this camera is also available in Carbon Fiber construction.
  • DSMC2 HELIUM: Offers the same tech specs as the WEAPON HELIUM 8K S35 camera. Now available in Aluminum Alloy. Upon request, this camera is also available with a HELIUM 8K S35 Monochrome sensor.
  • DSMC2 GEMINI: Offers better data rates and REDCODE settings than the EPIC-W 5K S35 GEMINI camera, while still offering the same features and functionality. Now available in Aluminum Alloy.

What’s more, RED has cut the prices of its three cameras to $54,500 for the Monstro 8K, $24,500 for the Helium 8K S35 and $19,500 for the Gemini 5K S35.

As for why it has cut its prices, RED says it has ‘found efficiencies and (is) passing the benefits’ on to its users.

In the meantime, RED says that if you have ordered one of the cameras it is discontinuing the company will update your order to the camera that has the same sensor as the camera you ordered.

For instance, if you ordered a WEAPON HELIUM 8K S35, your order will be changed to a DSMC2 HELIUM.
