Qualcomm has unveiled its new flagship processor, the Snapdragon 865 chip, which promises big improvements in smartphone camera performance, speed and AI.
Chief among the Snapdragon 865’s new specifications is a Spectra 480 image signal processor. Qualcomm says this supports speeds up to 2 gigapixels per second.
This will enable smartphones using the Snapdragon 865 chip to record 8K video, 960fps slow-motion video (at 720p) or capture images with a staggering 200-megapixel resolution.
Qualcomm says the new chipset will also support video capture with Dolby Vision HDR.
Qualcomm has also introduced its fifth-generation AI Engine to the 865, which is said to be twice as powerful and provides 35% better power efficiency.
The first phones containing the Snapdragon 865 chip are expected to be released in 2020.
