Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2023 open for entries

News

Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year is one of the most popular photography competitions around and has gained global recognition for some of the images and stories arsing from it. Now in its 12th year, it has opened for entries for the 2023 competition.

Director/Founder of the Awards, Caroline Kenyon, says ‘never has the issue of food been so important, so central to our understanding of what it means to be alive. Governments across the world grapple with the cost of living crisis, food banks struggle to keep pace with demand, battleships are on standby to escort grain from the port of Odessa. Meanwhile, in the everyday, we continue to grow produce, to gather in, to cook, to eat, to celebrate.’

There are over 25 categories in the Awards and they recognise the diversity of ways in which food impacts upon us. David Loftus, Chair of Judges, explains ‘what is really wonderful is the ever-increasing breadth of imagery, from still life to landscape, interior to portraiture, the macro to the immense, intimate street photography to epic drone images, the scope becomes greater year by year. Judging is always a humbling and enlightening experience and I so look forward to the coming year.’

There is a new category this year, Pink Lady® Moments of Joy with a cash prize of £1,500. The category is designed to showcase the joy experienced through food whether it’s in growing it, preparing and cooking it, or serving and eating it.

This year’s global judging panel, chaired by food photographer, David Loftus, includes: Ella Ravilious, Curator, Victoria and Albert Museum, Nik Sharma, Cookbook author, Photographer, Columnist, Claire Rees, Photography Director, Bafta, Phillip Prodger, Executive Director, Curatorial Exhibitions, LA and former Head of Photographs, National Portrait Gallery, London and Rein Skullerud, Head of Photo Unit, World Food Programme. I’m also delighted have been invited to join the panel for a second year.

Speaking about her success in last year’s competition, finalist, Suzanne Becker Bronk said, ‘I do not usually enter competitions but entered Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year because the imagery is so stellar and the contest focuses specifically on food and wine. Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year has elevated the art of food and wine photography with their well run and beautifully curated competition.
