Indian photographer Debdatta Chakraborty, has been awarded the title of Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2022. He captured his image on street in Srinagar, India, at night when it becomes a buzzing centre for food with vendors cooking over charcoal.
Caroline Kenyon, Director/Founder of the Awards said, ‘It is always a source of excitement and wonder when one single image rises to the top in the Awards. In today’s world, more than ever, we feel the need for comfort, for love. There is so much to reassure us here – the beautifully captured billowing embrace of the smoke, the golden light, the subject’s expression as he prepares the food for sharing. Sparks fly from the skewers, whose roasting we can almost smell, we imagine the warm, delicious aroma. This image, gentle but powerful, nourishes our soul.’
The winners were announced in an online ceremony hosted by Monica Galetti and streamed live to the competition’s YouTube channel.
The exhibition of the 2022 finalist images will be hosted at The Royal Photographic Society, in Bristol from 20th November until 12th December 2022. Entry is free.
