Panasonic has officially unveiled the LUMIX S1RII, the latest addition to its full-frame mirrorless camera lineup, promising high-resolution imaging and cutting-edge video capabilities. The camera is designed for both photographers and videographers, featuring a newly developed 44.3MP BSI CMOS sensor, L2 Technology processing, and impressive 8K video recording.
A key highlight of the S1RII is its ability to record 8K video at 14 stops of dynamic range, making it the first LUMIX model to achieve such high performance. The camera also supports internal recording of 5.8K Apple ProRes RAW HQ and ProRes RAW directly to a CFexpress Type B card, ensuring high-quality footage without the need for external recorders. The popular Open Gate feature has been enhanced, allowing shooting in 6.4K and even up to 8.1K/7.2K with an upcoming firmware update.
For photographers, the camera offers fast and accurate subject detection with real-time recognition Phase Hybrid autofocus, enhanced by AI-powered tracking. High-speed continuous shooting reaches an impressive 40 frames per second with autofocus tracking, ensuring that dynamic moments are captured with precision. Additionally, the SH pre-burst mode allows the camera to begin capturing images before the shutter is fully pressed, reducing the risk of missed shots.
Stabilisation has also seen improvements, with an 8.0-stop in-body image stabilisation (B.I.S.) system, complemented by 7.0-stop Dual I.S. 2 for enhanced performance, even when using telephoto lenses. Advanced electronic image stabilisation (E.I.S.) ensures minimal distortion and smooth handheld video shooting.
Designed for flexibility, the LUMIX S1RII features a compact, durable body with a tilt and free-angle monitor, adapting to a range of shooting styles. It also integrates with the LUMIX Lab and the upcoming LUMIX Flow app, providing streamlined workflows, LUT loading, and cloud-based collaboration via Frame.io. Additionally, it is the first LUMIX camera to support tethering via Capture One, further expanding its appeal for professional studio photography.
Panasonic has also introduced the new DMW-BG2 battery grip, which offers extended shooting capabilities and hot-swappable power, ensuring seamless operation during long sessions.
