Panasonic has announced the Lumix S 50mm F1.8, price tag £429, a new ‘nifty fifty’ L-mount lens for its full-frame S series camera bodies.

The new Lumix S 50mm F1.8 is the second f/1.8 lens in Panasonic’s L-mount system, but two more (a 24mm and a 35mm) are in development. The new lens is comprised of nine elements in eight groups, including three aspherical lenses, one ED lens and one Ultra-High Refractive Index lens.

The Panasonic Lumix S 50mm F1.8 also boasts a nine-blade aperture for smooth bokeh and nice shallow depth of field effects.

Aimed at portrait and landscape photographers, the new Panasonic lens is also designed for videography with a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing and a micro-step aperture control for smoother aperture changes.

The Panasonic Lumix S 50mm F1.8 is lightweight at just 300g and also offers a splash- and dust-resistant design.

Other features include a 67mm filter thread. The new Panasonic Lumix S 50mm F1.8 release date will be the end of June 2021.
