Panasonic has launched a new telephoto lens for wildlife photographers, introducing the LEICA DG ELMARIT 200mm f/2.8 Power OIS.

With a fast constant aperture and a 400mm (equivalent) focal length, Panasonic says the new LEICA DG ELMARIT 200mm f/2.8 Power OIS is perfect for photographing animals.

The new Panasonic lens also comes bundled with a 1.4x teleconverter, the DMW-TC14, which increases the focal length to an equivalent 560mm. You can also buy the DMW-TC20 2x teleconverter separately, which boosts the focal length to 800mm.

The LEICA DG ELMARIT 200mm f/2.8 Power OIS optical design consists of 15 elements in 13 groups, including two Ultra Extra-low Dispersion lenses.

Panasonic says this design enables the LEICA DG ELMARIT 200mm f/2.8 Power OIS to perform better in high-contrast scenes, such as capturing an animal against a strong sun in the background.

Also on board is a triple linear motor and a max 240fps sensor drive for more precise focusing, even during video.

The LEICA DG ELMARIT 200mm f/2.8 Power OIS Lens price tag will be £2,699, with a release date from December 2017.
