Olympus announced the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III – price tag starting at £629.99 with a mid-September release date – which inherits the E-M1 Mark II’s processing engine and improved noise control.

Aimed at travellers and photographers on the go, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III replaces the E-M10 Mark II and becomes the entry-level model in Olympus’s OM-D range.

Olympus says it has aimed to make the camera simpler to operate than the E-M10 II with easier access to creative features like Live Time.

The key addition to the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III is the latest TruePic VIII processing engine, which was introduced with the company’s flagship OM-D E-M1 Mark II and promises to significantly improve the E-M10 III’s noise control over its predecessor.

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III retains the same 16-megapixel Live MOS sensor as the E-M10 II but adds new 4K video recording at frame rates of 30p, 25p and 24p.

The OM-D E-M10 Mark III also offers a 121-point contrast AF system, plus a continuous shooting rate of 8.6fps in S-AF mode. We’ve asked Olympus what the frame rate is in C-AF mode and are awaiting a reply.

Other features include a 2.36-million-dot OLED EVF and a tiltable LCD screen with touch functionality.

Really, though, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III is all about portability and ease of use for people making their first leap into interchangeable lens photography. The camera weighs just 362g and measures 121.5mm wide by 83.6mm high and 49.5mm deep.

Olympus says it has revamped the OM-D E-M10 Mark III’s AUTO mode (previously iAUTO) to better contain camera movement, while adding an Advanced Photo mode where users can fine tune images and access features such as Olympus’s Live Composite mode.

Like other Olympus OM-D cameras, the OM-D E-M10 Mark III boasts built-in WiFi for sharing images instantly via the Olympus Image Share app.
