Olympus Lens Roadmap Revealed

News

Olympus revealed its lens road map at the press launch of its new OM-D E-M1X Micro Four Thirds camera.

Details are scarce, and there’s no indication of the timeline, but the diagram shows a total of at least 8 new lenses in the pipeline.

The company has already announced that a 150-400mm f/4.5 PRO lens with a built-in 1.25x teleconverter is in development, but there’s also a super telephoto set to come. The 150-400mm has an effective focal length of 300-800mm. However, with the teleconverter in use, that becomes 375-1000mm.

Olympus’s PRO line lenses is also set to gain a wide zoom and standard zoom along with two telephoto zoom lenses and more than one bright prime lens.

Meanwhile, the standard range of M Zuiko optics will gain a new high magnification telephoto zoom lens and the previously mentioned super telephoto lens.

High-end Focus

With at least six of the promised lenses being listed for Olympus’s PRO range, it’s clear that Olympus is focusing on high-end optics. This will complement the OM-D E-M1X announced at the same time as the lens roadmap. These lenses are also popular with OM-D E-M1 Mark II users.

The E-M1X has a double-grip design, two processing engines and advanced weatherproofing. It’s aimed at professional photographers and experienced enthusiasts who want a large, durable Micro Four Thirds camera.

We’ll keep you posted with any further details about the new lenses.
