Nikon has updated its popular telephoto workhorse, announcing the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR.

The latest iteration of Nikon’s 70-200mm provides up to four stops of Vibration Reduction image stabilization to help combat camera shake when shooting low light photography.

Nikon says that during burst shooting, the new 70-200mm f/2.8E also employs its electromagnetic diaphragm for consistent auto-exposure control.

The new Nikon lens features a new optical formula of six ED elements, one Fluorite element, a high refractive element and Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat to help make the lens lighter while keeping chromatic aberration at bay. Nikon says the new design also ‘all but eliminates’ distortion, ghosting and flare.

A Silent Wave Motor helps reduce noise during AF operation, and the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8E features function buttons on the lens barrel for customising focusing options.

Nikon also says the magnesium alloy lens barrel offers improved weather-sealing.

The AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR price tag will $2,799.95 / £2,649.99 / €3,229, with a release date set for 10 November.
