Nikon has expanded its Z-mount lineup with the launch of the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ, a power zoom lens built specifically for video. Designed to meet the demands of solo shooters and small production teams, the lens delivers high-quality 8K footage and is lightweight enough for handheld use. With a constant f/4 aperture and a versatile focal range, it is an attractive option for videographers working with Nikon’s full-frame cameras such as the Z9 and Z8.
The lens is designed to be both compact and well-balanced, weighing just 1210 g (including the tripod collar). It features servo zoom control and is optimised for gimbal and handheld shooting, making it a practical choice for filmmakers who need a reliable all-in-one zoom. Nikon’s optical engineering ensures sharp results across the focal range, with coatings that suppress ghosting and flare. Additionally, its video-specific design minimises focus breathing, ensuring consistent framing when adjusting focus.

One of the standout features is the ease-in/ease-out zoom control, which removes the need for an external motorised zoom unit. Users can adjust zoom speed with 11 different levels, assigned to either the lens zoom lever or the camera’s function buttons. The lens also includes position record and recall functions, enabling precise shot reframing between takes. Linear manual focusing allows for repeatable, controlled focus pulls, and both the focus and zoom ring directions can be reversed for user preference.
A distinguishing yellow ring around the mount signifies its status as a dedicated video lens. The lens is fully compatible with professional accessories such as matte boxes and follow focus systems. Remote operation is also possible via NX Tether on a PC or Nikon’s SnapBridge and NX Field apps. Additionally, the robust construction includes sealing against dust and moisture, with a fluorine-coated front element for added durability.

Dirk Jasper, Product Manager at Nikon Europe, described the new lens as an important milestone: “We’re committed to making the Z system a go-to solution for content creators of all levels, and Nikon’s first pro video lens for Z-mount cameras is an exciting step forward. You can rely on this video lens to deliver stunning results, which makes it a valuable tool in situations where time, budget, or circumstance mean reshoots aren’t an option.”
