Nikon has filed patents for two full-frame mirrorless camera lenses, lending more credence to the theory that such a camera is on the way.

Nikon told us at Photokina 2016 that it was considering a full-frame mirrorless camera, and there have been other indications since that it is moving in this direction.

This week the Japanese website hi-lows-note spotted Nikon’s Japanese patents for two new full-frame mirrorless lenses: a 52mm f/0.9 and a 36mm f/1.2.

The patents also included diagrams of the proposed Nikon full-frame mirrorless lenses’ elements and optical construction, which you can see below.

Now, manufacturers file lots of patents for all sorts of ideas that never come to fruition.

But what makes these Nikon patents interesting are the statements Nikon has itself made about its desire for a full-frame mirrorless camera.

If we had to pick our strongest camera rumour for the next 12 months, it would most likely be a Nikon full-frame CSC.
