We’ve known for a while that Nikon is going to introduce the NIKKOR Z 70–200mm f/2.8 VR S for its Z-series of mirrorless cameras, but now we know the price and specification.

The NIKKOR Z 70–200mm f/2.8 VR S is sure to be a popular choice amongst Nikon Z6 and Z7 users. It’s a great focal length for a wide range of photography while the maximum aperture of f/2.8 enables backgrounds to be blurred.

Nikon claims that the focusing is fast, smooth, and silent while the level of sharpness is outstanding across the frame even at the widest aperture. In addition, focus breathing (a shift in focal length during focusing) is said to be almost eliminated.

Construction

Nikon has constructed the NIKKOR Z 70–200mm f/2.8 VR S from 21 elements in 18 groups, with ED glass and SR glass as well as anti-reflective ARNEO and Nano Crystal coatings.

This combination of special glass and coatings minimises chromatic aberration, coma, ghosting, and flare. Even the issues caused by blue light, which are hard to control, are said to be used kept in check.
