Nikon has kicked off CES 2019 by announcing the Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S zoom for its full-frame Z series cameras.

Aimed at landscape, travel and architectural photographers, the compact lens weighs just 485g and measures 3.5 inches long.

Boasting a new optical design, the new Nikon Z lens features a nearly flat front lens element that makes the Z 14-30mm the world’s first filter-attachable ultra-wide-angle zoom lens covering a focal length from 14mm, Nikon says.

This design feature allows users to mount 82mm filters without the need for filter holders.

Inside the new Nikon Z lens are four Extra-Low Dispersion elements and four aspherical elements. There’s also an anti-reflective Nano Crystal Coat to help reduce ghosting and flare.

Like other Nikkor Z lenses, the 14-30mm f/4 S features a customisable control ring that can be assigned to manual focusing, exposure compensation or aperture control.

What’s more, the new Nikon lens is compatible with the in-body 5-axis stabilisation inside the Z6 and Z7.

The Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S price tag will be $1,299.95 with a release date set for late January.
