Not one but two Nikon 70-300mm lenses announced, one with VR the other without

Nikon has announced two new 70-300mm lenses, the AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR and the AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED. The only difference between the two is that one has Nikon’s Vibration Reduction (VR) technology to reduce the impact of camera shake and reduce image blur when shooting hand-held.

Stepping Motor

Stepping motors offer smoother, quieter autofocus in comparison with standard focusing systems. This makes stepping motor lenses a popular choice for videographers wishing to focus automatically during recording.

The two new lenses have no switches on their body and manual or autofocus is selected via the camera menu.

Both lenses feature an extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element and are lightweight with the VR version weighing 415g and the non-VR 400g. They are designed for use with the Nikon D3000-series and D5000 series of cameras from the D3300 and D5200 onwards (therefore including the newly announced D3400).
