Nikon has announced the NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S, price tag £3,299.00 / €3,849, a new portable telephoto lens in Nikon’s premium S range.

Aimed at wildlife and sports photographers, the new Nikon Z super-telephoto lens weighs 1,245g and measures just 234.5mm. The new NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S also boasts Nikon’s in-lens optical VR, which provides up to 5.5 stops of compensation, and Synchro VR, which gives users up to six stops of compensation when used with the Nikon Z9.

The NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S maintains a constant f/4.5 aperture, and when used with Nikon’s teleconverters let you extend the reach to 560 mm with a Z TELECONVERTER TC-1.4x, or 800 mm with a Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x..

Other features include customisable controls and a silent control ring. Memory set buttons on the lens barrel let you save focus distances.

The NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S is weather-sealed for use in a range of conditions without having to worry about dust, dirt or moisture, and Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat on the front elements helps reduce ghosting and flare.

The NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S release date is set for 14 July 2022.
