Nikon launches Coolpix P1000 with 125x zoom

Nikon has announced the Coolpix P1000, price tag £999 . $995.95, which boasts a fixed 24-3000mm equivalent lens offering 125x optical zoom.

Aimed at wildlife, sports and astrophotographers, the Nikon P1000 is the successor to the P900 and has a maximum aperture of f/2.8-8 and uses both ED and Super ED elements in its monster lens.

The Nikon P1000 also offers a Dynamic Fine Zoom feature that pushes the zoom up to 250x to an equivalent focal length of 6000mm. With the P1000’s 4x digital zoom you can then extend this further up to 12,000mm.

Inside is a 1/2.3-inch 16-megapixel back-side illuminated CMOS sensor that can record 4K UHD video (30p or 25p) with stereo audio, and Nikon has expanded its ISO range up to 6400.

Other new features include a 2.3-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a vari-angle 3.2-inch 921K-dot TFT LCD.

Nikon has also introduced WiFi and Bluetooth capability to the P1000 for use with its SnapBridge image transfer app.
