Nikon claimed the top spot in the full-frame camera market during the 2017 Christmas shopping season, the company claims in a new press release.

Nikon credits its holiday success to strong demand for the D850, as well as renewed interest in the D750. The company says it achieved double-digit sales growth in the full-frame market over December 2017 compared to the same period in 2016.

Nikon says it saw a 69% increase in units and a 59% increase in dollars earned during December 2017 compared to 2016.

“Premium segments are leading the imaging market, as consumer demand for features like full frame are on the rise,” said Ben Arnold, executive director, industry analyst for The NPD Group, the retail tracking service that published the figures.

The statement from Nikon also comes when rumours are suggesting it may announce a full-frame mirrorless camera with a new Z-mount within weeks.
