Nikon has filed a patent for a new mechanical focal-plan shutter that is adapted for use in mirrorless cameras.
The patent was filed with a Japanese regulatory body and could be another indication that the long-rumoured Nikon full-frame mirrorless camera could be coming soon.
Nikon itself has been driving much of the speculation around a new full-frame mirrorless camera. At Photokina 2016 the company told us such a move was in its plans. And since then numerous Nikon representatives have given interviews about the subject.
Our best guess is that we’ll see Nikon debut a full-frame mirrorless camera sometime in 2018.
