Nikon is working on a commercial camera than can resolve up to 8K resolution, the company’s president has said in an interview.

In an interview with Japanese website Asahi, Nikon president Kazuo Ushida has said that the company is developing a camera that can resolve 8K, and that Nikon sees the healthcare industry as a growth market for digital cameras.

According to a Google translation of the article, Ushida said:

Digital cameras focus on high-end models… and planning to differentiate themselves from smartphones by “absolutely enhancing image quality.”

We are aiming to commercialise a camera with resolving power that can withstand 8K compatible large screen televisions, which electric machinery manufacturers rush to develop. It is said to develop high performance lenses and sensors corresponding to 8K.

Ushida also signaled that Nikon sees the healthcare industry as a growth market for digital cameras, particularly in the ophthalmology camera business.
