DxOMark has concluded its testing of the new Nikon D7500 and posted its scores, which show the camera beating the Nikon D500 and falling just short of its predecessor, the D7200.

DxOMark gave the Nikon D7500’s sensor an overall score of 86 following its round of lab testing. This bests the Nikon D500’s overall score of 84 and falls one point shy of the Nikon D7200’s overall score of 87.

Among the tests DxOMark carries out are testing colour depth, dynamic range and low-light capability at higher sensitivities.

According to DxOMark’s ranking of the best APS-C cameras in terms of sensor performance, the Nikon D7200 and Samsung NX500 are jointly on top at 87, followed by the Nikon D3400 and D7500 both with scores of 86.

The Sony A6500 and A6300 both score 85, with the D500, Nikon D5500, Nikon D5600 and D5200 all on 84.
