The year’s best Nikon cameras

The Nikon brand is synonymous superior quality and has long maintained a place at the top of the pack with wide range of entry-level, enthusiast and professional cameras. Their constant innovation and creativity has resulted in some of the market’s highest-rated DSLRs and optics.

Chances are, if you’re looking for a Nikon DSLR it’s one of these models: the D5, D850, D810, D500, D750, D610, D7500, D7200, D5600, D5500, D3300 or the D3400. Ranging from the professional-grade D5 to the entry-level D3300 and D3400, all of these models will find their way into the Black Friday sales this season.

Professional-level cameras

The Nikon D5 just hit the market at the beginning of 2016, replacing the D4S as Nikon’s SLR flagship. It boasts Nikon’s most powerful processor ever, along with industry-leading low light AF and ISO performance and a redesigned AF system. It currently retails for $6496.95 (body only), and will probably stay somewhere within a few hundred dollars of that price during this year’s Black Friday markdowns.

The Nikon D850 is another popular professional-grade Nikon DSLR that promises high resolution as well as speed, and is one of the most complete cameras we’ve tested.

Although it has a DX or APS-C format sensor, the  Nikon D500 is a pro-grade camera and it’s extremely capable having much the same specification as the D5. The D500 was released last year as Nikon’s new DX flagship, and it remains so.

Enthusiast-level Nikon Cameras

The D750, D610 and D7200 are Nikon’s best-selling enthusiast models. They feature low light capabilities, superior image quality, fast continuous shooting rates, high-end video features and in-camera effects.

Last year, the D750 and D610 advertised markdowns to the tune of $500 on the just the camera body and upwards of $1100 on kits, with sterling equivalents in the UK. The DX format D7200 didn’t see as big of a markdown, with the sale price offering just $100 in savings. Like the D810, however, this sale price is still available on the D7200 so it will likely go down once Black Friday hits.

Nikon’s entry-level DSLRs are marketed toward those photographers who are ready to graduate from their point-and-shoots to cameras with better image quality and more manual control. This year’s most popular entry-level Nikon models are the D5600, D5500, D3300 and D3400.

Amateur photographers have long praised Nikon’s D3xxx series for its effortless handling and impressive performance. Both the acclaimed D3300 and its D3400 upgrade offer low body weights, high pixel counts and modest price tags of just $546.95 (with VR-II 18-55mm lens) and $646.95 (with AF-P 18-55mm lens) respectively.

The D3400, however, features Nikon’s Snapbridge technology, allowing it to be wirelessly connected to compatible smartphones and tablets for easy sharing.

Nikon Black Friday deals are typically the same both online and in-store, so you might want to save yourself the trouble of fighting the crowds at brick-and-mortar locations and make your Black Friday purchases online this year.

However, be sure to check your merchant’s advertisement (which is usually released several days before Black Friday) to determine if one venue offers better prices than the other.
