Nikon announces development of AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens

Nikon designs a new sensor
News

Nikon has announced the development of a new compact, lightweight AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR super-telephoto lens.

The new AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens borrows the Phase Fresnel lens element Nikon developed for its AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR lens, launched in January 2015.

It’s this PF element that gives the lens its lighter weight and portability and also helps compensate for chromatic aberration by utilising the photo diffraction phenomenon, Nikon says.

Price & Release Date

No AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR price information is available yet, but Nikon says it will reveal pricing and final specifications later this year.

Our best guess is that the AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR will be one of a slew of products Nikon will announce at or before Photokina in September.
