Nikon has officially announced the much-awaited finalists for the 2024 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards, highlighting 40 striking images, four portfolio collections, and three videos. This year’s selections capture not only the extraordinary beauty of wildlife but also the spontaneous humour found in the natural world.
The 2024 competition attracted nearly 9,000 submissions from 98 countries, all competing for the coveted grand prize: a one-week safari with Alex Walker’s Serian in the Masai Mara. Notable entries include a cheetah playfully hiding behind a tree, bears sharing an embrace, a fish chasing an eagle in flight, and a tiny, commanding flying squirrel.
Stefan Maier, Nikon Europe’s Senior General Manager of Marketing, expressed excitement over the finalists. “These images encapsulate both the charm and humour of wildlife while reinforcing the importance of conservation. We are thrilled to be part of a competition that spreads joy and raises awareness about our natural world,” Maier said.
Judging this year’s entries are a panel of industry leaders, including notable Nikon Creators and Ambassadors. Public voting for the Affinity Photo People’s Choice Award has also begun, allowing wildlife enthusiasts to vote for their favourite entry and enter a free prize draw to win £500.
Winners, including the overall and category champions, will be announced on 10th December at an awards night in London, followed by a week-long free exhibition showcasing the finalists’ work at the Gallery@Oxo.
The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards continue their partnership with the Whitley Fund for Nature, supporting conservation projects across the Global South.
