New Nikon Z camera for consumers is on its way

Nikon designs a new sensor
News

A new Nikon Z camera that sits below the Nikon Z6 and is aimed at consumers will be released soon, according to reports.

Nikon Rumors reports that a Nikon executive at the CP+ show in Japan confirmed that a new Z series camera aimed at entry-level full-frame users is in the pipeline.

No other specifications were discussed, but we can probably assume it will be something similar to Canon’s recently announced EOS RP that sits below the EOS R.

The new Nikon Z5 (let’s just say for now!) will likely be a stripped back version of the Z6 in terms of specs, such as a plastic body with no weather sealing, lower resolution EVF, no IBIS and possibly no top display like the Nikon Z6 and Z7.

It will also be interesting to see if a consumer Nikon Z camera has an XQD card slot or if the company goes with SD memory. And will a Nikon Z5 use the same sensor as the Z6 or opt for the sensor from the Nikon D750.

We can also probably safely assume that a Nikon Z5 – if that is what it will be called – will be priced competitively with the Canon EOS RP and cost around the £1,300 / $1,400 mark.
