March Competition Theme: Water and Reflections

How to photograph a reflection
Tutorial
//

It’s the first day of March and that means the first round of our monthly photography competition has closed and the second one is now open. This month, the theme is ‘Water and Reflections’.

March’s Competition

This is the second round of our new competition that runs until the end of the year.

Every month we’ll challenge you to take photographs on a particular theme and to enter them into the competition via Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. You just need to tag us @camerajabber and include the #tag for that month. For March use #waterandreflections.

Wet pavements, puddles, rivers, ponds and lakes can all have reflections, so there’s suitable subject matter in towns and cities as well as the countryside. The reflection can be the main subject of your image or just a small part of it, perhaps adding foreground interest to a cityscape or landscape.

Which f stop for landscape photography should you use?

At the beginning of April, we’ll select our favourite image from the March entries and award a prize of a Samsung 128GB EVO Plus microSD with SD adaptor memory card worth £78.99.

Then at the end of the year, we’ll judge all the winning images and select an overall winner. The photographer of that image will receive a 250GB Samsung SSD T5 portable storage unit worth £125.49.

Competition Monthly Prize: Samsung 128GB EVO Plus microSD card

About the prizes

The Samsung 128GB EVO Plus microSD card with SD adaptor is a UHS-I U3 Class 10 memory card, that is 4K compatible and can be used in cameras and other devices that accept either a microSD or an SD card. Backed by Samsung’s 4-proof protection these cards are ultra reliable and are water, temperature, X-ray and magnetic proof making them the perfect partner for an action cam like a GoPro Hero6 Black, a mirrorless camera like the Fuji X-E3 or a DSLR like the Nikon D3400 – and a host of others.

Measuring just 74 x 57.3 x 10.5 mm (3.0 x 2.3 x 0.4 in), the 250GB Portable Samsung T5 is an excellent storage device for photographers on the move. And thanks to V-NAND technology and a USB 3.1 Gen interface it has fast transfer times so you don’t have to wait long for your images to copy across. It’s also compatible with Windows, Mac OS and Android*, so you can use it to back-up your data and photos from your PC, phone or laptop.

* Windows 7 or higher, Mac OS X Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan and Sierra (versions 10.9 or higher), Android 4.4 (KitKat) or higher.
