MagMod has launched what it’s calling a ‘game-changing’ flash modifier system that employs magnets to mount two flashguns at once.

The system consists of three core products: the MagBox, MagShoe and MagRing.

The MagBox is a 24-inch collapsible softbox that attaches to the new MagRing via magnets. There’s an integrated gel holder built into the MagBox. Gels snap into place, and a zipper built into the side of the MagBox allows you to swap gels in and out without having to remove attached diffusers.

There’s also a FocusDiffuser, which is an a diffuser/lens/grid all-in-one, and offers two to three stops more light output. Inside the FocusDiffuser, micro-structures alter the angle of light in 40 or 20-degree beam angles, softly redirecting light forward and causing less spill.

Next is the MagRing, which is a speedring with magnets that allows you to mount up to two flashguns to a tripod. The MagRing has a metal base with two doors that lock your flashgun in place.

The MagRing is designed to accommodate any speedlight. As MagMod explains:

With two flashes in the MagRing, you’ve got double the power of a single flash—almost the same amount as a studio strobe—without actually having to lug one around.

In a sad, pre-MagMod world, you’d have needed a dedicated (and freakishly ugly and silly difficult to put together) dual mount shoe, bracket or ring just for this purpose.

The MagRing is so convenient that you’re free to leave your mounted flash or flashes in it even when you don’t need your softbox. No need to waste time ripping apart your whole set up just cause you wanna change locations and modifiers. Score!

The MagShoe is what MagMod calls the ‘baller coldshoe of the future.’ The MagShoe locks your speedlight in place with a simple lever, while a trigger allows you to adjust its angle

MagMod is currently funding the launch of the new products on Kickstarter. Prices start at $49 for the starter kit, which gets you a MagShoe. A pledge of $90 gets you two MagShoes, while a $199 pledge gets you the MagBox plus MagBox SpeedRing adaptors for Bowens, Profoto, Elinchrom or Paul C Buff strobes. For $249 you can get the MagBox, MagRing and MagShoe.

Estimated delivery time is January 2019.
