Macphun, the software company that launched Luminar 2018 and has positioned itself as a strong Adobe alternative, has officially changed its name to Skylum Software.

The company sent out an announcement confirming the change, but the move has been expected for a while. Last year Macphun announced that it was changing its name to better reflect the direction in which it was taking its software.

Originally a Mac-only developer, the company said:

We believe that photography is not about the platform or operating system you use. We believe that great photo editing and management tools should be available to you anywhere: be it on a desktop Windows machine, a Mac, in the cloud or your mobile device.

Skylum in the past year has rolled its Luminar software out for Windows users, and the company also has its Aurora HDR software.

Earlier this month Skylum updated its flagship Luminar 2018 software to improve on a number of its existing features.
