Lytro officially ends its light field image sharing platform

Lytro has officially killed off pictures.lytro.com, its once-official online platform where users could share their light field images.

Launched as a companion platform for the original Lytro light field camera and the subsequent ILLUM camera, Lytro’s online platform enabled users of the cameras to upload their ‘living images’ and share them via Facebook in a format that allowed people to take advantage of their ability to change the point of focus.

The closure means Lytro’s desktop application is the only way that people who shoot with the cameras will be able to view their light field images off-camera. And it’s now impossible to share them online.

The move isn’t terribly surprising, given Lytro’s decision to stop making consumer models and focus on professional video solutions.
