Leica has introduced the Summilux-SL 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. for the SL-System, promising better low-light capability and superb bokeh, Leica says.

The new Leica lens features a motorized focusing system. Unlike manually focused prime lenses where the length generally varies when focusing, the Leica Summilux-SL 50 mm f/1.4 ASPH. has internal focusing, Leica says.

Leica says the new 50mm f/1.5 also ensure sharpness throughout the entire focusing range because the focusing group is constructed with an aspherical element, yet remains light enough to guarantee fast automatic focusing.

Its optical design contains a total of 11 elements. Of these, two are aspherical elements and a further four are made from glasses with anomalous partial dispersion for the correction of chromatic aberrations.

Leica says this optical construction helps reduce all monochromatic and chromatic aberrations to “a hardly perceptible minimum”.

What’s more, multilayer coating on all lens surfaces and a new design of the lens tubes help reduce reflections and stray light.
