Apple’s new iPhone will be called the iPhone X, according to images leaked by a leading Dutch telecom company.

Royal Dutch telecom provider KPM has distributed an image of the new iPhone in a box displaying the Apple logo and the moniker iPhone X.

The image, received by LetsGoDigital, was sent by a marketing agency and intended for an advertorial in its Dutch edition.

Forbes has also picked up the leak and points to a tweet by prominent tech leaker Evan Blass who vouches for the iPhone X naming convention.

Blass also states that pre-orders for the iPhone X will open on 15 September. The new iPhone will begin shipping on 22 September.

Of course, it’s also possible this is all a ruse, but as LetsGoDigital points out, KPN is a major telecommunication company in The Netherlands.

It’s also worth noting that even if Apple releases as iPhone X as evidence suggests, it could still launch the long-rumoured iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus simultaneously. The iPhone X could very well be a high-end anniversary edition of Apple’s smartphone.

Apple will officially launch its new iPhone on 12 September at an event in its Cupertino, California, headquarters.
