The new Insta360 X3 360-degree camera has been announced and is the update to the iconic X2. The new camera has had a major workover but retains much of the styling of the previous X2, it’s just been toughened and reinforced ready for action.

The new camera has been designed with creators, adventurers and athletes in find and is packed with features that makes it stand out. The X3 is a natural progression as the latest in the line of X series cameras.

Insts360 X3 is a camera designed for action

An all-new 1/2-inch 48mp sensor is at the heart of this new 360º camera with a large 2.29-inch touch screen that should enable easy composition, reviewing and option changes.

As you’d expect from the market leaders, the camera has full range of 360º features, including 5.7K 360 video with Active HDR, Invisible Selfie Stick effect and 72MP photos. Following the success of the modular Insta360 ONE RS, the X3 doubles as a standard action cam with the ability to switch to Single-Lens Mode that enables upgraded sharp, ultra-wide 4K video capture.

As we’ve seen from Insta360, the connected App is a powerful, fully-featured editing suite with AI functions that enable fast reframing using intuitive editing tools.

“With the X series, we are reinventing the point-and-shoot camera to make it easier for anyone to be a creator. X3 is built to help the next generation of creators take their creativity to new heights,” JK Liu, founder of Insta360, said.

Insta360 X3 is available to order today, 2022, via, Amazon (U.S., Europe and Japan) and select retailers.

Capture action footage in full 360

While GoPro and Insta have produced 360º action cameras, the X3 takes the image quality and functions to the next level. The reframing feature enables you to recompose a balanced output after the event, ensuring that you capture the action from every angle. The streamlined AI integration accelerates this footage and the ability to upload directly to 4:5 Instagram and 9:16 TikTok without losing quality helps streamline workflows.

The new Active HDR mode boosts the camera’s dynamic range and visual impact, and this is made possible by the new 1/2-inch 48mp sensors. The new HDR Mode utilises an innovative algorithm to stabilise action footage, minimising ghosting and revealing detail in shadows and highlights, details that would otherwise be lost.

The dual lens, synominuos with a 360º camera, has been designed to enable effects such as the Invisible Selfie Stick. When activated, the stick attached to the camera magically disappears. Other effects, such as Me Mode, take full advantage of this technology.

Boosted image quality

Image quality is the big enhancement with the new Insta360 X3, and the 1/2-inch 48MP offers a huge leap in detail compared with its predecessor. The new sensor enables modes such as the upgraded 4K resolution, Single Lens Mode, 170º MaxView, 72MP photos, 8K 360º time-lapses, Bullet Time and more.

Action ready

As with all leading action cameras, stabilisation is incredibly important and here, the six-axis gyroscope and flow state stabilisation help to keep video ultra-stable.

Keeping with the standard action camera specifications, the camera is waterproof to 10m without needing an additional case.
