Huawei Mate 20 Pro announced
News
Huawei has announced the Mate 20 Pro, a new smartphone with a triple camera system. However, in change from the camera in the Huawei P20 Pro, it features a Leica Vario-Summilux-H1.8-2.4/16-80 ASPH system.

That means it has the equivalent of a 16-80mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.8. That’s a much wider angle than the P20 Pro which has a focal length range equivalent to 27-80mm.

The maximum aperture of the Mate 20 Pro’s camera is also a little smaller, f/1.8 vs f/1.6.

Huawei has again worked with Leica to create the new camera system. This time it combines a 40Mp f/1.8 wide-angle camera with a 20Mp f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle and an 8Mp f/2.2 telephoto camera.

According to Huawei, the Mate Pro has better focus tracking of moving subjects and the stabilisation system now operates when shooting 4K video. There’s also a 2.5cm macro shooting mode.

There’s also a new AI Colour mode for video. This records human subjects in colour while the background is black and white.

Artificial Intelligence

The Mate 20 Pro has Huawei’s new Kirin 980 engine and Dual-MPU (processors). These combine to enable a 134% improvement in the performance of the AI (artificial intelligence). For example, the camera can recognise up to 4500 images. That means that it’s better at selecting the correct settings and applying appropriate processing.

Further good news is that the Mate 20 Pro has a 4200mAh battery. That’s 1000mAh more than the Mate 10 Pro’s battery. In addition, it’s possible to supercharge a depleted battery to 70% in just 30 minutes.

The Mate 20 Pro has a 6.39-inch 2K+ (3120×1440) curved OLED HDR display with a 19.5:9 ratio. It’s also water and dust-proof to IP68 standard.

The Mate 20 Pro will go on sale for 1049 EUROS (around $1215 / £920)
