HTC has announced its new flagship smartphone, introducing the U12+, which boasts dual cameras on the front and back of the phone and new immersive audio capabilities for video.

With a 6-inch, 2,880×1,440-pixel display with an 18:9 cinematic aspect ratio, the HTC U12+ isn’t a huge upgrade over its predecessor, but it does offer some significant new features. HTC returns to a dual camera format with the U12+, with a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 16-megapixel telephoto camera on the back. On the front of the HTC U12+ are dual 8-megapixel cameras.

The cameras offer 2x optical zoom along with 10x digital zoom, and HTC’s UltraSpeed Autofocus 2 employs phase detection autofocus.

Sonic Zoom lets users zoom in on a particular sound or voice while recording a movie, and HTC claims it’s 60% louder and offers 33% more focused sound than it did in the U11. You can also use Audio Boost to amplify all the voices and sounds in a scene without zooming into the video.

A One-Touch Auto Zoom lets you zoom smoothly into a scene during filming, and there is also revamped Optical and Electronic Image Stabilisation and the capability to record 1080p video at 240fps for slow motion movies.

The HTC U12+ is powered by a Snapdragon 845 chip and 6GB of RAM. It’s available with internal storage of either 64GB or 128GB, and also offers a microSD card slot that can support cards at capacities at up to a considerable 2TB.

The 64GB HTC U12+ price tag will be $799, while the 128GB HTC U12+ price will be $849. Both are available for pre-order now. Visit HTC’s website for more information.
