How to manually calibrate the OSMO Pocket

Tutorial
//
The smoothing effect of a gimbal on your video is incredible, quite literally transforming amateurish shaky handheld footage into pro-quality reel.

However, there can be an issue, a slight knock or miscalibration and your gimbal can start, at it’s worst, to act erratically or more commonly film everything at a slight skew.

On larger pro-level gimbals it usually takes a while to correctly balance with the camera in position. With the likes of the Osmo, Osmo Pocket or GoPro Karma Grip calibration is usually quick and easy with the device handling everything for you.

While auto calibration as you start-up is usually sufficient there are times when a full manual calibration of the Osmo Pocket is required. This takes a couple of minutes to run through the process.

First of all, let’s take a look at the day to day use of the Osmo Pocket and the auto calibration that happens during start-up.

Osmo Pocket auto calibration

  1. Stand the Osmo Pocket on a level surface
  2. Start-up the Osmo Pocket and leave it to run through the startup sequence
  3. Once the camera levels out the Osmo will display that it’s ready to use on the screem

Removu K1 ReviewThe auto calibration will work 99% of the time, and if you can find a flat surface then I found that just holding the Osmo Pocket vertical as it started up seemed to be OK, although probably not ideal.

However, there are times when a full manual calibration will be needed and when this happens the process is again straightforward.

Osmo Pocket manual calibration
  1. tand the Osmo Pocket on a level surface
  2. Start-up the Osmo Pocket and leave it to run through the startup sequence
  3. Once the camera finishes start-up flick left on the screen and click Calibration and then OK
  4. Once the Osmo Pocket shows Gimbal Calibrated you’re ready to go

That’s it all very simple. If you have any questions or comments about the process then please let me know.
