It’s an interesting time for Huawei. It’s one of the biggest phone brands around, but it’s not allowed to sell handsets in the US. And then recently, Google denied it use of its apps.
But the product development continues and today its sub-brand, Honor, has announced two phones, the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro.
Quad Camera
It’s the camera in these phones that interest us. Or should I say cameras? Because, like the Huawei P30 Pro, the Honor 20 Pro and Honor 20 have a quad camera design. In both cases, this includes a 48Mp main camera, a 16Mp camera with a 117-degree angle of view and a 2Mp macro camera. The latter enables focusing at just 4cm distance.
In the Honor Pro 20, the 48Mp main camera has an aperture of f/1.4, that’s the largest currently available in a smartphone. It’s also larger than the f/1.8 aperture of the main camera in the Honor 20.
In addition, the Honor 20 Pro has a stabilised 8Mp telephoto camera while the Honor 20 has a 2Mp depth assist camera. That’s got us a little puzzled, but it seems a telephoto lens is more highly prized than a depth camera that can help with depth of field simulation.
Other differences include a slightly larger capacity battery in the Honor 20 Pro, 4000mAh vs 3750mAh.
