Garmin Virb Ultra 30 action cam offers 4K video, voice control

News

Garmin launched quite a dramatic update to its Virb action camera, introducing a number of high-tech features in its new Virb Ultra 30.

Chief among the Virb Ultra 30’s new features is 4K UHD video recording, which brings it in line with other flagship models on the market from Sony and the expected imminent arrival of the GoPro Hero 5.

The Virb Ultra 30 can shoot 4K video at 30fps, or 2.7K at up to 60fps, 1080p at up to 120fps and 720p at 240fps.

The new Garmin action cam also adds digital 3-axis image stabilization, which  works in every mode, to help reduce shaky footage so that videos are smoother and stable.

A new voice control feature sets Garmin apart from all other rivals in the action camera market (though leaked spec sheets suggest the GoPro Hero 5 will add this functionality, as well).

Garmin says the voice controls work from a distance, and even when enclosed in its waterproof casing.

Another interesting feature Garmin has added to the Virb Ultra 30 is live-streaming capability to Youtube (though footage is limited to 720p).
