Fujifilm has announced the Fujinon GF20-35mm F4 R LM WR, which on one of its GFX-series medium format cameras has an effective focal length of 16-28mm.
The lens is constructed from 14 elements in ten groups, with three aspherical, one ED aspherical and three ED elements to control distortion and chromatic aberration. Fujifilm claims this enables the lens to deliver resolution to match its 100MP cameras and deliver edge-to-edge sharpness at every focal length and aperture setting.
Fujifilm’s Nano GI coating technology has also been used to reduce ghosting and flare, thus boosting sharpness, contrast, saturation and sharpness.
The GF20-35mmF4 R LM WR measures just 112.5mm and weighs 725g, which is impressive for such a wide medium format lens with a constant aperture of f/4. This portability makes it an attractive option for landscape photographers travelling on foot.
As it has an internal zoom mechanism, the GF20-35mm F4 R WR doesn’t change length when the focal length is adjusted.
A stepping motor handles the focusing quickly and quietly with a closest focusing point of 35cm at every focal length. Focus breathing is also said to be minimal.
Like all of Fujifilm’s G-mount lenses, the GF20-35mm F4 R WR is weather-resistant, in fact, it is sealed at 12 points. In addition, the front element is fluorine-coated to repel water drops and fingerprints.

Fujifilm has yet to confirm the price of the Fujinon GF20-35mm F4 R LM WR, but it is believed to going on sale this month.
