Fujifilm has announced its latest premium compact camera, introducing the 24.3-megapixel Fuji X100F – price tag £1,249 – with a release date set for 16 February 2017.

The fourth generation of the company’s popular X100 line of retro fixed-lens cameras, the Fuji X100F follows the X100T, X100S and original X100.

Inside the Fuji X100F is a 24.3-megapixel, APS-C-size X-Trans CMOS III image sensor with no anti-aliasing filter to help the camera resolve finer details.

Because of its new image sensor, the Fuji X100F offers an improved native sensitivity range, with the top end reaching ISO 12,800. This was a only available in the extended range in the X100T.

The Fuji X100F also boasts a newly designed fixed Fujinon 23mm (35mm equivalent) f/2 lens, which is made up of 8 glass elements in 6 groups. It also includes one high-performance double-sided aspheric lens and a convex lens made of high refractive glass.

Like other recent Fuji cameras, the X100F is powered by the X-Processor Pro image processing engine and incorporates Fuji’s Film Simulation modes.

Fuji has also introduced the new Acros Film Simulation mode it has added to its other new launches, which allows for black and white images with more contrast.

Users can apply these Film Simulation modes to both stills or the X100F’s Full HD video (there’s no 4K video capability with this camera).

Fuji says it has also beefed up the autofocus system in the X100F. Its fastest AF time is 0.08secs, Fuji says, and the camera starts up in 0.5secs.

Meanwhile, Fuji has expanded the number of AF points from 49 in the X100T to 91 (and up to 325) in the Fuji X100F so that approximately 40% of the imaging area is covered with phase detection AF pixels.

The Fuji X100F offers six AF modes, including AF-S and AF-C. For both of these options, you can choose either Single Point or Zone mode for the type of focus area, as well as the Wide / Tracking mode, in which the camera automatically selects multiple areas for focusing.

Fuji has also added its popular Focus Lever – introduced in the X-Pro2 – to the X100F, which in Single Point and Zone modes you can use to swiftly change the location and size of focus areas.

Also chief among the Fuji X100F’s specs is Fujifilm’s new Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder, which allows you to change the magnification of the electronic rangefinder for refining your focus.

And Fuji says that a new Real Time Parallax Correction function over the focus area helps you achieve optimum framing and focusing in the Manual Focus mode.

Design-wise, the Fuji X100F adds a new ISO dial incorporated into the Shutter Speed dial.

And the Exposure Compensation Dial now has the Command Dial Position.  Set the Dial to “C” position to enable exposure compensation adjustments with the Command Dial at the front of the camera body, and also expand the exposure compensation range to ±5 stops.

Fuji X100F Price & Release Date

The X100F will be available from 16th February 2017 in Black and Silver, with an RRP of £1,249.
